Created and hosted by Brian Scherschel. A podcast about the appreciation of kaiju and tokusatsu movies and discovering their historical and cultural value
It will be a two-for-one podcast panel at G-Fest this year!
I’ll be hosting a panel with Taylor Hensley fromGiant Monster Messages. The panel will be recorded on video like last time, and YouTube is the first place to look for that once it’s done. Subscribe to YouTube to make sure you get the notification.
I’ll also make an appearance at the panel for the Godzilla anime trilogy.
It’ll be a very special convention, and I’m looking forward to meeting more listeners.
The convention will again be held at the 4-star (4-star?!) Crowne Plaza O’Hare in Rosemont, Illinois.
With beautiful cinematography, detailed miniatures, and lots of work involving water, War of the Gargantuas is an incredible movie! Russ Tamblyn gives us a natural and cool performance in his role as Dr. Stewart. This movie is so refreshingly itself. The related topic for this episode is the recent ascension of Emperor Naruhito.
This episode is dedicated to actor Russ Tamblyn.
I’d like to send a shout-out to our patrons Kyoei Toshi, Sean Stiff, and William Mize. Thank you for your support! I really appreciate it.

I address the film’s depiction of the atomic bombing of Hiroshima, and how that scene is edited for the English-language version. Frankenstein is a stand-in for atomic bombing victims in this movie. I’ll pay attention to the scientific ethics explored in the story too. This movie is when screenwriter Takeshi Kimura started using a pseudonym, and with this movie, I don’t blame him. The related topic for this episode is Ryuichi Shimoda et al. v. The State, the case where atomic bomb victims sued for reparations.
This episode is dedicated to Showa era screenwriter Takeshi Kimura.
I’d like to send a shout-out to our patron Sean Stiff for donating at the Kaiju Visionary level and William Mize for donating at the Kaiju Commander level. Thank you for your support! I really appreciate it.

Robert Dunham has always impressed me with his performance in this movie! And his ability to speak Japanese adds to the flavor of this entertaining classic Sekizawan kaiju movie. I examine the underappreciated Mark Jackson character. I zero in on the diamond heist plot and explain why it’s in the movie, because it takes up a lot of time. I connect this movie to The Pink Panther (1963) and other classic movies that influenced it. The related topic for this episode is the Liancourt Rocks Dispute.
This episode is dedicated to Robert Dunham and Yosuke Natsuki.

Daniel and I go further into what the anime trilogy makes us think about. We examine which historical figures the Exif could have been responsible for, the inevitability of Godzilla, the cycle of civilizations, and a fun economic term called entropy pessimism. I compare the story in the anime trilogy to Westworld, Blade Runner, Chrono Trigger, the book of Genesis, the legend of Icarus, and I Heart Huckabees.
This episode is dedicated to actor Ren Osugi.
I’d like to send a shout-out to our patrons Kyoei Toshi and Sean Stiff. Kyoei donated at the Kaiju Scholar Level and Sean donated at the Kaiju Visionary Level. Thank you for your support! I really appreciate it.
