Episodes of Kaijuvision Radio have 3 parts:

Part 1: A short description (not a summary) of the movie.  It’s an analysis tailored to kaiju movies, to arm the listener with the facts.  At last, a way to compare these movies to each other.

Part 2: With the facts out of the way, we discuss the movie and give our opinions.

Part 3: A brand new, one-of-a-kind fusion of international affairs and movie analysis.  Japan-related topic(s) either brought up by the movie, or going on at the time the movie was released.  Topics are historical, political, economic, or cultural.

We give one Kaijuvision Radio T-shirt to donors at Patreon who donate at the Kaiju Visionary level ($10/month or more) for 4 straight months, and a T-shirt and a mug to donors at Patreon who donate at the Kaiju Connoisseur level ($25/month or more) for 3 straight months.

Episode 6: Rodan (1956)

Because Rodan is in numerous Godzilla movies, Nate and Brian discuss his namesake film. While the movie is serious and at times horrific, like the original Gojira (1954), Rodan is a completely different type of kaiju. Our related topics are Japan during the Korean War and Japan’s history with the United Nations.

Episode 5: Godzilla Raids Again (1955)

Brian and Nate discuss the first Godzilla sequel, the last black and white Godzilla movie, and the first monster fight. While it’s not meant to be an epic film, it does have some strengths and significance. For our related topic, we discuss the Japanese Self Defense Forces (JSDF) and their role in the Godzilla franchise.

Episode 4: Godzilla, King of the Monsters! (US) (1956)

Nate and Brian discuss the Americanized version of Gojira (1954). This movie is a time capsule, very indicative of its time, which makes it somewhat difficult to discuss. We try to address the reasons behind the many alterations made to the movie. Our related topic is part 2 of 2 of our discussion about the occupation of Japan, which covers the more negative aspects of the occupation.

Episode 3: Gojira (1954)

In this episode we tackle the original Gojira, the movie that started it all. Because there’s so much analysis of this movie at so many other places on the Internet, we concentrate on the historical and political references, story mechanics, and cultural significance of this indispensable classic. Our related topic is part 1 of 2 of our discussion of the occupation of Japan. We lay out the basics of the occupation and how Japan was drastically changed. We will address the more negative aspects of the occupation in the next episode.
